Hello once more dear readers. Since the holidays are coming next month, we, the people behind your favorite book blog have a great recommendation slash review for you to read during the holidays.
With some hot spiced wine (warm chocolate if you’re under 18, of course).
A winter’s tale is the second book in the awesome “Shakespeare Sisters” series and the best possible read if you’re in a festive mood.
Simply put, it had everything a good book needs. You have angsty romance, you have Adam a documentary maker, you have love, you have Adam a documentary maker, you have family drama, you have Adam a documentary maker and obviously the required and mandatory smexy times for the very likeable – trust me, you’re gonna love Kitty and Adam, but especially Adam – couple.
Cough. OK, i loved Adam.
*whispering*As if that wasn’t obvious*whispering*
Now, as you all well know (kinda hard not to since i’ve been shoving this information down your throats at every review of a book with this kind of male lead) I have a very soft spot for the grumpy type of MC.
Now, the sadistic hidden romantic in me I valiantly ignore each time and staunchly pretend it does’t exist was kinda happy with the plot and the Christmas feels.
Kitty Shakespeare, our very gentle, warm and nice heroine started working as a nanny for a young boy who just happens to be (hey, it’s fiction, right? And coincidences happen at every step) the son of the guy who’s the boss at the company where she wants to intern.
And no, the boss with the kiddo is not the main guy in this story.
Instead it’s the brother.
Now, talking about yummy brooding male leads.
It also helps that the action takes place in Virginia and i’ve read the entire book with the song “Take me Home, Country Roads” (People who saw Kingsman: The Golden circle know what i’m talking about) put on repeat.
It fits. No, seriously, it really does.
Well, Christmas carols would also be appropriate, I guess.
The characters are complex and very well developed and in case you were hesitating because of my angsty comment above, have no worries; the book isn’t heavy on angst and the plot is fun, detailed and catchy.
And Adam, despite his occasional rudeness, gruff demeanor and brooding attitude is a
sweet guy through and through. What i particularly loved between Kitty and Adam was the transition from slight antipathy to friends and then lovers. But no worries, even with the initial less than promising start between the two, you can still practically see the sparks flying.
While you can read this book as a standalone, I strongly advise you to also indulge in the first book of the series ”Summer’s Lease”. I mean, Christmas love stories are awesome, but steamy Italian summers are not too bad either.
And yes, we do have a lot of Shakespeare references in “A Winter’s Tale”, so grab your mug, put some logs in the fireplace and sit back in your favorite armchair near the Christmas tree and enjoy this great read to your heart’s content, fellow bookaholics.
