review 1: Definitivamente este es de mis libros favoritos quedé atrapada desde la primera pagina y admito que me quedaba leyendo hasta altas horas de la madrugada, los escenarios están bellamente descritos y te transportan a esos lugares tétricos que narra la historia, en algún par de ocasiones llegué a soñar con ellos inclusive. Lo recomiendo mucho, toda esta saga me ha gustado y enamorado. Ademas cabe mencionar que la edición en pasta dura (no se si la otra también) de cada libro tiene un bello separador incluido.
review 2: I read this book in German since I can't speak Spanish. It was one of the best books I've read in a long time. The language sounds a bit old, takes some getting used to, which is probably because it was translated very closely from spanish. ... moreIt didn't bother me, since (If I dare say so) my language skills have always been good, so I knew exactly what he wanted to say and overall it gave the book just much more character.The plot at first sounds run-off-the-mill cliche, since it talks about a boy who needs to rescue his kidnapped love interest that has yet to give him an answer to a certain very important question.Everything other than that is the least bit cliche you can find in Fantasy Literature. It's cast, it's setting, the descriptions thereof, some of the minor plot points. What I didn't enjoy at first but then found to be very valuable was how the author takes some extra time to introduce the characters and their relationship to each other. Most of them are rather intricate, so many nuances of the plot would not have been possible without the beginning, and the author uses those relationships to create much, much more meaning to the plot, to an extent where I refused to eat dinner because I had 100 pages left to go and I didn't wanna waste my time on something as trivial as food.What I also liked about the characters was the fact that the novel introduced characters that were homosexual or characters that were disabled WITHOUT making a big deal out of it. Usually, a novel either doesn't include/doesn't mention homosexual characters OR they put homosexual characters in and then put so much of a focus on the fact that they are homosexual that they forget to make them interesting beside that. Same goes for disabled characters. I think this novel just deals with that issue perfectly, and uses those characters for diversity and depth of plot rather than to make a pro or anti gay stand.The ending of the first book in what is a trilogy had me furious. It wasn't enough. It felt like eating a an olive right in front of a wonderful meal you weren't allowed to have. At that point, I wanted the sequel to come out immediately, I wanted more, because of the tension the author creates within the characters and purposely doesn't resolve, because of the bittersweet ending that sets up the next novel. I hated the ending, but I also loved it.If you speak Spanish or German, I suggest you read this book right now. If you don't, complain on the internet about how much you would like it to be translated to english. less
