DS Aector McAvoy
review 1: Set in the rather gloomy seaside town of Hull in England, this first in a series introduces us to a setting and a cast of characters that make up a dark, rich story. Detective Sergeant Aector McAvoy is a scarred, deep feeling, hulky guy with a quick mind: hero qualities in my world of thrillers. His family, associates, adversaries, and bosses have rich histories that only begin to appear in this novel, so there is a lot of potential for future installments. I liked how the author slowly brought in the binding elements of several seemingly unrelated crimes, and threw in some dead ends and curve balls. I look forward to more by this author.
review 2: Detective Sergeant Aector McAvoy, part of the Serious and Organized Crimes squad in Hull, has twice been knock
... moreed down and trampled by the killer he has been chasing. A series of murders, each of a lone survivor of a massacre, has captured McAvoy's attention, and he means to get to the bottom of the case, even though his assigned duties are more along the lines of "set up a database, train the other officers in its use, and keep out of the way." Aector follows his gut, does interviews on the QT, and discovers the real killer, even when others think they've captured the right man. Fast-paced, intricate plot with real world characters with foibles and phobias. Excellent! less

A new mystery series set in modern-day Yorkshire, similar to Peter Robinson's series.

Slightly unusual. Be careful if you live on Humberside.
