DS Aector McAvoy
review 1: This is a debut novel from this author. I'll be looking for more from him. He creates an honest family- and home-loving man who wants to find bad people. There's something that happened in his past that puts him in an elite squad that has a lot of in-fighting. Aector (pronounced 'Hector') was given this assignment as a reward but instead of actively investigating crimes, he's the computer expert. How he gets involved, and works to figure out the killer in this book is a good read.
review 2: An old man appears to have taken his own life; a young teenaged girl is viciously murdered by a machete in a church. Detective Sergeant Aector McAvoy of the Hull, UK, police is haunted by the idea that there is a connection and soon finds himself on the hunt for a ser

McAvoy's boss, Trish Pharaoh, is an excellent character, but the hint of an attraction between them seemed forced, as McAvoy is supposedly deeply in love with his wife. Nonetheless, a good debut. less

It had a good plot for a police procedural but I found the protagonist a sappy goody-goody.
