review 1: I enjoyed the beginning of this book. Understanding how individuals are wired and how our brains work can go a long way for leaders. As the book went on I found myself losing interest. Don't get me wrong, I agree with the concepts and think the material is good. But for me this book really depends on the timing of when you read it.For someone in a new leadership role it'd be great to have opportunities to practice the information taught in the book. I gave it three stars because while I thought the book was good I found my self struggling to finish. I felt like the information became repetitive as the book went on.

I'm not kidding.If you try to help intelligent people think through their prob... morelems, the book says, you won't accomplish much. They know their problems better than you do! Instead, help people to think more about the way they think about their problems. Ask questions like, "How long have you been thinking about this? How high a priority is this for you? I would rather not make this decision for you, but do you want me to help you brainstorm some techniques for making this decision?" Questions like these help people to reach their own insights.The book has lots of practical advice; it also has lots of pointless facts about neurology. Hey, you know that after you have a flash of insight, you're temporarily excited and eager to take action, right? Well, this book will tell you the same fact in neurological jargon, as though the author believes your self-awareness is useless until it's baptized in science. less
