review 1: I am not a massive David Walliams fan (in fact I've never actually watched Little Britain) but I picked this up at the library because it looked interesting and I think he is interesting. It was a bit name-drop-y. Many of the anecdotes went along the lines of "as a youth I was totally in awe of x famous celebrity, I met him and made an embarrassing/creepy comment! He rolled his eyes and probably thought I was a loser. Years later I saw him at some famous function and made a witty quip that had him rolling around laughing! Yes that's right, I made him laugh. We are now BFFs and he has named his children after me."He speaks often of his love and admiration for Matt Lucas and yet doesn't paint him in a flattering light at all. From this account it seems like David worked... more hard writing all the scripts and coming up with all the ideas, almost literally pushed Matt out of bed and into the studio to perform them - brilliantly, due to his greater natural funniness - only for Matt to later take credit for coming up with the ideas. To me it seems like D.W. is not a naturally funny or silly person, in fact he is quite serious and takes himself very seriously. But because he has a lot of intelligence and a strong work ethic he eventually made it as a comedian anyway just because he was so determined to get into that field and kept working at it.
review 2: If you don’t know who David Walliams is: SHAME ON YOU! You are really missing out on a comedic genius who, with Matt Lucas, has turned the sketch comedies “Little Britain” and “Come Fly With Me” into cult classics both here in the UK and abroad to millions of Britcom-watching Anglophiles. Charming, witty, aloof and sometimes a bit dark (great comedians are often one-step removed from depression medication), Walliams is a modern, metrosexual John Cleese who is rapidly compiling a comedic legacy of his own. less
