review 1: This book was disturbing and horrific. Don't read if you do not want to scarred and horrified. I thought it was going to be funny, and it was great after reading the first few pages. Then I skipped ahead because I realized that this might be disturbing and I wanted to see if it was, and I freaked out and started crying and couldn't eat. DO NOT READ! I wish I could rate this a negative one. SCARRING FOR CHILDREN DO NOT READ
review 2: I had watched a few of the television adaptations of David Walliams books and really enjoyed them. Toyed with the idea of introducing my Godchildren to books but decided to read at least one myself first. I thought it was brilliant. I would have gone mad for these stories as kid. It has a Roald Dahlish feel to it which I enjoyed... more. It also raised social issues in an interesting and subtle way. I think it is good for children to understand poverty and social depravation as many of them are now coming into contact with it. less
