review 1: Very very disappointed with this book, this was the first book I have read by David Walliams and maybe it was the wrong place to start.David Walliams is such a funny guy and I was expecting so much more from this book, maybe something as crazy and funny as Roald Dahl but it falls way short of that. The characters felt very flat and the plot was weak, the Demon Dentist could have been made much scarier. There were a couple of fun parts in this, Winnie riding through the school on her moped made me chuckle a couple of times. Not really sure if I can be bothered reading another of his books, maybe one day I will try Mr. Stink.
review 2: This is my first book I have read by David Walliams and it's called Demon Dentist. The book is just phenomenal and it blew away my e
... morexpectations of a book. The book follows the life of a young boy called Alfie. He has rotten teeth and there is a reason for that, he hates the dentist. After an incident a while back, he doesn't want to go back to a dentist. Ever since his dad become ill, he's had no problem with covering it up but when a social worker, Winnie, gets involved it's a whole new story in which Alfie will have to bite the bullet and go to the dentist. Another one of the main storylines that intertwines with the rest of the book is that when children put a tooth under their pillow they expect to get money in return but on no, in Alfie's town they are getting eyeballs and insects left under heir pillow instead. Alfie has a hunch at who it is, he thinks it's the new, demon dentist, Miss Root, who only came to the town recently and is causing chaos. Will Alfie catch her in the act? What will happen when he comes face to face with the Demon Dentist? The main character in the book is young Alfie. He is such a good character, who is developed so well and by the end of the book you no everything about the character and your cheering him on to the final page when he's up against problems at hand. Alfie's Dad is also a main character and I just love what he did in the book. He made the ultimate sacrifice and in my mind one of the best heroes in a book. The one thing I like about him is that he's done so much for his son, that it ends on that. Another major character is Alfie's social worker, Winnie. I have got to say that it's the best relationship bond I have seen in a book because at the start, he hates her but by the end of the book he truly does love her. Her wild personality is just so unique! Then there is Miss Root and her white cat, Fang where epic antagonists. They made the book way more entertaining and so unique! I figured out Miss Root from the very beginning of the book and they had such a good send off. Lastly is Gabz, she is Alfie's friend and later on Girlfriend. She was great and I loved her personality all the way through! This book had everything, although it's aimed at a young audience it's got mixed genres. For the most part it's just a tense book with a lot of humour but the book has a dark element in which if I was young I wouldn't like it but since I am not young I did enjoy it. Although the book is long, it's so fast pacing and the content is so imaginative and everything was revealed there isn't any loose ends (thank God). It's just a great action packed story in which the characters are developed and their chemistry by the end of the book is just on point. Overall, I can't wait to read some more of David Walliams books. less
