review 1: The Mother’s Mite is an inspirational book for any woman who has a mothering instinct. A compilation of beautifully articulated stories that illustrate the giving nature of women, each story shows it is not the monumental moments in life that teach the best, but small moments that are filled with love and acceptance. Each narrative paints a beautiful example of virtues such as trust, empathy, and thoughtfulness. Other traits worthy of emulation are definitely portrayed by loving mothers and grandmothers. I really enjoyed the true to life examples and short quotes sighted throughout the book. Every woman has something to give and need never wonder if she is giving enough. The Mother’s Mite illustrates that just like the widow from the Bible that gave her all, our all i... mores also enough.
review 2: I guess I was expecting this book to be more motivational for the dark days of mothering in the trenches, but it's more like Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul. Each vignette was written in a way that made me think of sunshine and rainbows but wasn't necessarily relatable. Some of the "mites" didn't seem small at all and left me feeling like I am not doing enough. There were a few stories that I really liked though and would like to adopt the traditions for my own family. Overall, a sweet, quick read but it's not going to pull you out of any troubles when motherhood feels overwhelming--on those days, just read the Introduction and Conclusion; they're good summaries. less
