review 1: This is the book series that Hallmark has based it's TV Series Cedar Cove on. So, I decided to read it. If you have seen the first episode however, and maybe a bit of the second, you have read this book. I just thought both of them were just a little too slow for me and what I usually like to read. It is a nice show but I just can't stay with it, or the book series. Which is too bad because I was looking forward to it.
review 2: This was a nice bit of fluff. Perfect for listening to on my daily commute. However, I was not aware that this was the first in a series a series of books until just now when I logged onto GR to review it. You can imagine my reaction when the book ended without uncovering any answers to the mystery that ran throughout. That mystery
... more was, to me, the most interesting story line in the novel. There were several subplots running parallel and consisting mostly of romantic relationships. One of those relationships, between two characters named Cecilia and Ian, was so boring I truly could not have cared less about them. Seth and Justine were slightly more interesting with Olivia and Jack being the most believable/interesting. There was also a minuscule subplot involving an elderly woman named Charlotte and her friend, Tom, that ended abruptly and unsatisfying. The mystery of Grace's husband, Dan's, disappearance was by far the most intriguing part of the book and that is the one that ended with absolutely no resolution. I suppose it was done that way to ensure that readers would buy the rest of the books. I'm not sure if I care enough to bother. Still on the fence about that. 3-stars because I liked the book for what it was but felt there could have been more interesting character and plot development if the author had left out some of the lesser story lines and focused more on the good ones. less
