review 1: Love, Lies, & High Heels is a western romance by Debbie Conrad. It is a delightful light read. It is full of surprises. Luke Galloway helped Sam Paris develop his Kentucky farm into a viable operation. They raised, raced, sold, and studded Kentucky race horses. From an almost penniless man, Sam is now well-off as is his partner Luke. Luke has a prison record from his youth. A group of boys decided to go joyriding in Luke’s step-father’s car. Not liking Luke, his step-father pressed charges against Luke and with the Judge’s help, Luke was sentenced to three years in prison for a first offense. When he got out, Luke was determined to make good and he did. Now Sam has the “brilliant” idea to have Luke go get his daughter, Rusty, and bring her to the farm ... moreunder the assumption that Sam is dying. He hasn’t had contact with her since she was a little over seven. After breaking her arm on a horse, Rusty’s mother refused to let her come back to the farm. Slowly letters between the two of them stopped and Rusty grew up without her father. When Rusty hears Sam is dying, she wastes no time throwing clothes together to travel to Kentucky with Luke. She finds Luke overbearing and arrogant which is not a good start. Because of her mother’s death, Rusty had inherited all her Mother’s money so could easily stay with Sam for the duration of his illness. Luke asks Sam to reconsider his lie; but Sam is determined not to run Rusty off. Meanwhile, Luke has to keep his mouth shut on the lie. However, he doesn’t monitor his mouth around Rusty and begins to interfere in her attempt to date men from the area. He will not give in to the idea that he likes Rusty and she likes him. Sam puts another temptation in the way. He wants Rusty to marry and have children so he can be a doting grandfather as long as he can. Rusty sets out to find a man to marry and give her a child. Can she find one with Luke making comments all the time? Will she find out Sam is lying? What will happen then?

Cute story with annoying characters! Luke, Sam, and Rusty drove me up a wall but they were still fun to read. It starts out with Sam who has just had foot surgery begging Luke to go find his daughter Rusty and bring her home....any way possible just get her home even if he has to lie and say he was on his death bed which he actually ends up having to do.Rusty has only seen her father once since she was a small girl and that was at her mothers funeral. Her mother went thru men like most change underwear and when Rusty was very young decided she and her daughter could do better than Sam and took off leaving Sam devastated but well it's complicated...It's quite apparent that Luke and Rusty are meant to fall in love but boy do they take their dear sweet time each of them spitting fire at the other for gosh knows how long but then isn't that usually how true love begins?

I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the characters and the story line. There were some good steamy scenes, great personalities (including a meddling father), pulling emotions, and the perfect HEA. I wouldn't mind reading this again. This is great for a cuddle-up read and relaxing. There was some humor to lighten up some parts and the sparks were definitely flying between Luke and 'Princess'. :) The bantering was in great taste although they both had to work for it. Fun and tense. Enjoy
