review 1: Fair warning - this book started slowly so be prepared to feel like you're slogging through a lot, waiting for the important moments to finally happen. I promise it will be worth it. Right about halfway through, the pace picked up and the possibility of happily ever after is there. I could clearly see the openings for more books set in this world, specifically as it pertains to Gallowglass and how he might some day find someone who loves him back. There are times within this book that the perspective switch doesn't work for me but that's just writing style. The story is a good one and worth reading. Enjoy!
review 2: As with the second book, this book dragged. It was like five books in one. And I feel like there were things that would have been major plot points
... more/issues in the first book, but they weren't in this one, somehow -- sort of like how on Pretty Little Liars the initial problem is "the Jenna thing" and by season four you can't believe that's why no one ever went to the cops? It's like, the initial problem was the Congregation and what they would do about Matthew/Diana and there are people finding them everywhere and now in this book they just get to hang out in their nice houses researching alchemical history and planning christenings or what have you for weeks at a time while the bad guys just, like, what? Sit and wait? Anyway. Also, I have some issues with the perspective change/addition. Otherwise, it's just a fun fantasy book. less

This is better than the second book, but not as good as the first.
