review 1: 1.5 stars. This story had great potential, but it was very poorly written. The author seemed not to have a very good grasp on how American men might speak to each other and used an increasingly folksy style that seemed completely out of character (the portrayal of the English lead female character was much better). Characterizations were erratic, and most of the characters - apart from the two main ones - were one dimensional.
review 2: I read many reviews of this book before I purchased it... And given that some say it will appeal to baby boomers (check) as a holiday read (check) I figured it would be a great book for me to take away on holiday. ... moremour and I had tears rolling down my face and on several occasions I was doing that silent laughing thing that almost hurts! It was a delight! Not high brow stuff of course but for me a perfect balance! Hence the perfect 5star score. It is a gorgeous book... One which may well be rightfully judged by its equally gorgeous cover. Read this one even if you're young and not on holidays! It'll brighten your day. less
