review 1: I sometimes do this thing where I buy a book for some random reason -- maybe a Kindle Daily Deal? maybe a recommendation? -- and then forget about it. I bought Things We Set On Fire in 2013 and didn't know I had it until browsing my kindle late last night looking for a fiction book to read. Looking at the title, the author, and the description I couldn't figure out why I had purchased it. No memory of the purchase. I have a feeling it was the title. It's a good one. As is the book, which I read in one day.
review 2: I found this to be a terrific read although incredibly sad. Reed builds up the story in a very provocative way. I was humbled at my assumption, as I'm sure other readers experienced. I did feel that the relationship between the sisters was not fully
... more explained. At the end of the story, I still did not know why their relationship became so fractured. Reed tried to illustrate that it was because of the mothers actions, but it felt forced. If anything, I felt it would have made the sisters closer.Still a good story about human nature, the poor choices we make because we feel they are the best, and about how life does not always give you the happy ending Hollywood promises. less
