review 1: This was a very nice book to read, full of dark foreboding snowy weather and a grim London setting, but ultimately an endearing tale of sisterly love. It enabled me to immerse myself into restoration life and had lots of action and adventure. The two heroines were engaging and you really wanted them to be okay. I took a star away thought for the sheer amount of 'happy coincidences' it contained which suspended believability. However I would still recommend this book to anyone who likes historical (fantasy).
review 2: One of the best historical novels I,ve read in a long while. Based in the 1660,s sisters Ella & Sadie Appleby left rural Westmorland in a hurry after Ella,s employer died & they stole some items to live off. They came to London hoping to disappear
... more in the crowded city but Ella,s employers twin brother is in pursuit to get revenge for his brother. This novel is well worth a read if you like a good historical adventure. less

Ugh! The sordid squalor of 17th century England- what's not to love?
