review 1: In the book Trife Life To Lavish Part 2 its about a young women by the name Nichelle that was on the hunt to find her big brother(Genesis) which they had been separated by birth their mother was strung on drugs bad and killed by a man name Arnez was known to be a big time killer and drug dealer and once the mother was killed his next mission was to find and kill Nichelle and Genesis Arnez also killed and hurt other people that was close to Nichelle like her man renny which was Arnez cousin and her bestfriend Tierra. He caught Nichelle at her release modeling party and kept her locked in a room druged up preparing her the to be killed.Taking care of a child like its your own and not knowning that it could possibly be another mans baby is heart breaking i would suppose I tri... moreed as reading the book to understand how the character supreme was feeling once he found out the man that tired to kill his wife wsa aslo the father of the daughter supreme had been raising and loving for three years precious the baby mother had no problem with Nico the real father steping in taking care of his daughter Aliyah but everybody known this isnt gone to go well between Supreme and Nico both also involve in the drug and street life supreme want nico dead so precious and aliyah would be all his terrible mind set if you ask me The settings well its not just one there were many settings like aliyah birthday party where supreme and nico got into a big fight, then you have nichelle big modeling release party and and Arnez house where he kept nichelle hostage asnd also where her mother was killedFirst you got where Arnez snactch nichelle up from her party without anyone knowing who took her arnez druged her up on sleeping pills so she wouldnt realize where she was and feed her but once arnez left the house her bestfriend who she thought was dead tried to resuce her in attempt to get away her friend actually got killed this time but before she died nichelle found out some horrible news that the whole time she thought tierra was dead she was actually leaving with nichelle lover and had a baby boy this made nichelle not want anything to do with either one of them and who can blame her. After reading this book really let me know that the saying keep your friends close but you emeies closer is true and alot of young people should watch carefully who they call friends and who they put their trust into i would recommend this book.
review 2: I gave this book 5 stars though it really deserves 4.5 (Goodreads really needs to offer half stars but I digress). There are many characters and several things are going on at a time. I always find it clever and interesting when authors bring all their characters together in one novel. I appreciate the writer's ability to create a world & stick to it. However, there were MANY instances in which I found the plot just too complex. I will not complain because I, for one, am sick of the stereotypical, simple plots found in most urban novellas. The connection between Genevieve/Nichelle and Genesis seemed very real, I could tell that King took a significant amount of time to think through their brother-sister relationship in connection to the relationships of the other characters. She's one urban novelist who does a great job developing her characters, oftentimes the main character is the most realistic in her complexities but whatever. Tierra & Renny's "relationship" was a failure in my opinion, and really could have been edited from the novel, but I suppose King needs a way to create other tales about Renny & Nichelle/Genevieve. I "hope" Tierra is really dead this time - I'm sick of unrealistic/unlikely deaths and disappearances that are so common in these types of novels. Heads up writers: this is a novel, a book, a story - not a soap opera. Sheesh. Precious and Supreme still seem to take the forefront of every single King novel. I really don't like Precious, so maybe I'm just biased. And the Future Aailyah epilogue was a complete waste. I mean, please don't let King fast forward through the lives of all her characters to create Aaliyah as a teenager. We've already read the story of the future Aaliyah - about 15 years ago in "The Coldest Winter Ever" - certainly we don't want King to try her hand at that storyline, too. Anyway, this is a fairly decent urban novel. And I appreciate its "complexity" and King's thorough storytelling. She's done an amazing job and I definitely recommend this novel to anyone interested in urban fiction and to lovers of the genre, like myself. Don't miss the "Trife Life to Lavish" series - part 1 is good & I'm telling you, part 2 is even better!!! less
