review 1: In his Preface, Backderf writes that My Friend Dahmer began as a pamphlet consisting solely of his memories of being at school with Jeffrey Dahmer, a collection of short stories. I think I would have enjoyed that more. In order to beef the pamphlet up to a novel, he's inserted a great deal of conjecture and opinions. He still calls it a memoir, but it's not. When it is, when it shares actual experiences, such as the story of a class trip to DC, it is much more engaging.
