This book was a lot more surprised me in a few spots. For one, I didn’t expect the subtle magical elements to be a part of the story. Secondly, I did NOT expect that ending.
The mystery integrated into the plot added that extra oomph to the story that I really enjoyed. There were moments towards the end that I really had no clue who really did it. And there were no clues throughout the book to who actually did the big scandal. I also really liked how the plot was given to us in sections instead of a big plot dump in one spot and half the story just a run-around of accusations.
The main character definitely surprised me. Without really remembering much of the synopsis prior to reading, I did not expect the character’s actions to be sketchy. I liked reading from a perspective of more of the “bad guy” instead of a story driven to stop the bad guys. The plot was really unique in that way.
I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. I found myself to really enjoy the entire book. I wouldn’t say that there were any particular slow chapters since the plot thickens throughout the entire story. I definitely recommend this book for those who want a surprising thriller with a even more surprising ending!
