Since the dawn of time, many, many witches were burnt at the stake.
The question is, how does one burn a witch at the stake?
Enter the Malleus Maleficarum, the Inquisition’s handbook regarding witches!
From the introduction, where the book explains that it’s divided in three sections, it’s easy to see how powerful the Holy Inquisition became with it:
“The first section is aimed at clergy and tries to refute critics who deny the reality of witchcraft, thereby hindering its prosecution”
Meaning that, if you don’t agree with it, even if you’re a part of the clergy, and especially if you try to somehow interfere with it’s investigations, you’ll likely end up having a rough time.
And there, ladies and gentlemen, is how you truly rise in power: Bully people into ignorance.
