review 1: Very rarely do I read a book that I just can't finish. In fact, it's been a long time since that happened, that I was loathe to give up on this book. But give up I did. Because within 20% of this book, the main character had annoyed me so much (and wasn't funny) that I couldn't handle it any more. His constant moanings about being single and alone weren't funny, and they didn't make him likable. I was incredibly annoyed by his demeanor and kept waiting for him to say something, anything, to make me think he wasn't a single, pathetic woman a la Bridget Jones, but far more annoying. I just...couldn't finish this. And that makes me feel like a failure. A romantic hero should be masculine, but emotionally open, and this book took the "pathetic single woman" aspect and ga... moreve it to a man. Incredibly disappointing.
review 2: Really really enjoyed this book.Being from the man's perspective definitely made it different from most of the books in the genre and it was a really fun read. Gavin was just the right amount of being a hopeless romantic and being a totally clueless guy about it. The story was a fast and fun read and I adored the idea of a guy just knowing after one conversation and then doing everything he could to meet her again.It was also really funny. Just the perfect bits of dry sarcasm and wit. I don't know how many books I've read reviews of saying they're funny and I find nothing to laugh at but this one had me giggling a lot. I really loved it.My only complaint at all was that I felt that the ending was a little rushed. I don't want to spoil it but it seemed like things were left one day and then bam, next chapter is was all fixed and wasn't made clear exactly what happened in between.But overall, it was a really great read. less
