review 1: Abandoned after reading the first few pages and finding out that the hero after just a few glimpses of the heroine now divided his life into before and after meeting her. There needs to be a bit more substance into characters falling in love at first sight within the first few pages. Without hearing someone speak or exchanging a few words. How shallow is that? What will fill the next 250 pages? I was also put off by the talk of the hero's business acumen and how he had expanded his father in law's businesses and financial holdings. We are talking of the nobility in Regency England here but this makes me feel like I'm reading about a hero in contemporary times. Would a duke be proudly engaging in trade? We are not just talking about ensuring inherited land and estates are... more made prosperous financially by farming or having tenants for example. I have to say in this entire series of novels, there has been talk of each hero involved in trade and running factories and mills like its no big deal. The heroines pay no heed to proprieties. The heroes neither. The only descriptions seem to be of the H/h physical attributes ...creamy bosoms for the women, lithe forms for the men etc. Repeated again and again The men always fall in lust with the heroines first and without us understanding what on earth they can see in these women, the hardened bachelors then start to think of getting married and it becomes a spiral of farcical proportions.I apologise to those who truly enjoy this series. Its just not for me.
review 2: Sebastian and Bella were forced to marry when she was in her teens. Sebastian tries to do right by Bella and she acts spoiled at first, but then realizes that Sebastian really is a good guy. Bella's cousin Ormond is a snake and does everything he can to try to break them up. Bella and Sebastian start talking and they have some obstacles to overcome. This was a really good book and I enjoyed reading about Bella's friends and what Tabby and Monte went through. less
