Hi Def Media Group
review 1: I hated this book. Not only was it poorly written and dull, but it was cliché as well. In my opinion, it was exactly like every other obesity-related book out there that we’ve all read so many times. I couldn’t find a single spark of originality, despite how The Fat Boy Chronicles is based on a true story. That may have sounded insensitive because I’ve never been obese, but it’s the honest truth. I couldn’t sympathize with Jimmy because my brain automatically dismissed his struggles, having read them multiple times before. This is why I hate a large chunk of books written for teenagers – they all boil down to the same story, with slightly different characters and plotlines. To be blunt, I would not recommend this book to anybody.
review 2: I met Da
... morevid and Diane at a conference in New Orleans, and after listening to them read a selection and then discuss the premise of how the book came to be, I bought it and had them sign it. I believe this book is a book that parents and teachers should read. I was very glad that Jimmy's story is one of hope and that through hard work and effort, you can change a bad situation for the better. This story is being made into a movie, and certainly one I will show to my classes.Lang and Buchanan touch on some topics that have stigma attached to them like obesity, cutting, bullying, and abuse. All in all, a great book. I really liked the authors and wish them the best with their movie and future books. less
