The Teacup Novellas
review 1: Back-Story: I have previously read the first title in this novella series; however, I have not read the second one as it is still not available on the Nook. I have been periodically checking to see if Moody had released any more of her titles on the Nook and was surprised to see that this title is now released however the first title "Tea with Emma" is no longer available on it. My copy was downloaded for free (2-24-14) on the Nook. All titles are available on the Kindle.Review: As with the previous books, since this is a novella, the story is a little over 100 pages long. Also as typical with novellas, there isn't going to be as deep as a storyline as you would find with a traditional length book; however, don't let this sway you from this story. Moody is a wonderful writ... moreer and is very good with plotlines and character development.Looks- I love this cover just like I liked the previous one I read. I love that it shows the little "Second Chances" building since that is such a large part of the book. Content- This book instantly captured me from the very first chapter. I found it very interesting to see Tracey in her current situation and how she decided to go back home and return to her roots. I love Tennessee so it was just a bonus to me that Tracey's home was in Tennessee. Once again, I loved all of the characters. I loved the relationship Tracey had with her sister. And, of course, I loved the character of Noah. One of Moody's best qualities, in my opinion, is her ability to make her characters so interesting and dynamic and relatable in something as short as a novella. All of the main characters are adequately developed throughout the story. The plot was adequately developed as well. Since this is a novella, it doesn't have many plot points but the ones it does have are very well developed. I was absolutely enchanted with Alex's and Tracey's side business of "Second Chances." I loved seeing them refurbish their new shop and work on the pieces they would soon sell. I also loved seeing Noah's journey through his grief and the peace that he eventually came to. Likes: Easy, quick read. Literally all of the characters. Developed characters and plotline adequately for a novella. No major grammatical/spelling errors which is always a plus in my book. Moody is simply a charming writer.Dislikes: Not necessarily a dislike, but the teacup played a much smaller part in this story than the previous one. Overall:Recommend? Yes!Reading the Next One? I would love to whenever it becomes available on the Nook.
review 2: In this Teacup Novella, book 3 of the series, we find the teacup in the wall of a smokehouse and have a mystery to solve to find out how it got there, where it came from, and who put it there. But, the best part of the book is the restoration of people's lives... and furniture as well.Tracey had trouble with her boss, who was a married man and was making passes at her, and left her job and came back home. At home she found her sister, Alex, had trouble at her job at a school and was now starting a new business restoring furniture. Tracey joins here in that pursuit. Here is a quote to showing a portion of that theme in the book. “'And here's the best part, I haven't mentioned this before, but I pray for each of these babies while I restore them.' 'You pray for them? Okay...' 'I pray for the people who adopt them.'” (location 1841) “'Who but my sister would see furniture restoration as a ministry? I love that about you, Sis.' Alex finished wiping her tears and picked up her brush, dipping it into the olive-gray-green Boxwood paint. 'Think about it—why would God give us a passion for something unless we could somehow use it for His glory? But the whole idea of restoring something old and worn our into something new and useful didn't originate with me—God's been in the restoration business from the beginning of time.'” (location 1851)In the past, the girls father, Buddy, had trouble with the church he was the pastor of and after his brother helped him learn to forgive and go on Buddy started a new ministry helping bikers that he rode with, men who needed to learn about God, forgiveness, restoration and how helping others can get you to forget your own problems. Buddy calls the group of guys 'my Elders'. “'No, it wasn't me, Tracey Jo. It was God. All God. Every bit of it.' 'Don't let his humility fool you,' Noah said. 'He always tells us it's the Holy Spirit that convicts us, not him. But without your dad here, none of us would be here doing this. We'd all still be screwed up and...messed up.' 'Noah, I'm only doing what God led me to do. When my brother Rob dragged my sorry carcass out of the house a couple years ago, I'd pretty much lost the will to live. And he told me I basically had two choices. I could spend the rest of my life feeling sorry for myself and building a monument of hate to those who'd 'done me wrong' as he put it. Or I could get off my keister, kick out that self-imposed prison of pity, and start over. Make a fresh start. ''Here he was, my own brother, telling me how to let God give me another chance. Rob, my crazy biker beach bum brother from Naples, Florida, telling me—the pastor—about forgiveness and purpose and unconditional grace and love of Christ.'”It was another wonderful teacup novel. I won't tell you about the solution to the mystery of the teacup... read it for yourself and find out. I can't wait to read book 4 and 5 but I have to wait until they are free or until I get some money because you can only read them on Kindle, they aren't print books so I can't just borrow them from the library. less
