review 1: Some books (in this case a collection of Cavett's blogs for the NYT), are meant to be read aloud. I recommend the audio version of this book, to hear the charming Cavett recall favorite episodes and stories, and even give familiar voice to guests from his programs. Facinating for fans not just of Cavett but of old Hollywood. Warning.... George W and Sarah Palin supporters might want to give this one a pass :)
review 2: I've enjoyed watching reruns of Dick Cavett's talk shows over the years, and I've always been impressed with their quality. They're more than just promotional vehicles for whatever actor or musician is appearing. He had conversations with people, devoted an entire 30 or 60 minutes to them, and talked about more than just their latest project.
... more And his show spent some time in primetime! It probably wouldn't work today, what with shortened attention spans and the ever-widening definition of celebrity/talent. Luckily Cavett has written a blog on the New York Times website for the past few years. Many of his blogs relay stories from his show and others are stories about things that didn't appear on his show. They're all interesting though. This book is a collection of entries from the first few years of writing the NYT blog. The stories are funny, touching, ironic, coincidental, and a joy to read. I wish we had people producing television at the same level Cavett managed to. less

Another collection of Cavett pieces from the New York Times. Always an enjoyable read.

Quick pleasant read. I would have preferred more Groucho and less Obama though.

Like sitting in the room with the man listening to his stories over cocktails.
