review 1: Not gonna lie. There were bits I didn't love but the parts I really liked made up for most of the former. The plot was original which is always refreshing, and somehow, the author always gave warmth through the characters' voices. I certainly enjoyed the portrait of the main character and was expecting something would wrong her by the end but I guess hope was a more suitable anchor for the plot. Highly recommendable reading.
review 2: This story slowly pulled me in until I realized with a flip of a switch that I really liked it. It was confusing at first, the way the naration switched between chapters, but eventually I got used to it and have come to appreciate the way that it reflects the author's story telling culture. At the risk of giving away some spoiler,
... more I loved the parallel between Saba's storytelling of her sister and her own life. Saba is such a strong female character, who is made a bit more human and relatable because of her flaws. The ending was a mix of melancholy and admiration at Saba's decision to follow her dreams. Great read for those interested in women living in post-Revolution Iran and the power of sisters/family. less
