review 1: I first fell in love with Donna Morrisey with Kit's Law. This book was a little harder to get into due to the narrative structure, but well worth keeping on. Livvy's story, as she meanders in and out of cognizance is fascinating. There's always the question at the back of your mind: What /is/ the deception? Sure, you get hints at the beginning of the story. Old wives tales. Stories told to scare little children. You wonder.. but then you forget. You get caught up in all the things that are unfolding in her memories. And truth be told, you find out that there are more deceptions than you might think. Not all of them Livvy's. Well worth the read.
review 2: I found this novel quite interesting with regards to the East Coast involvement during WWII. My favourite
... morecharacter was "old" Livvy & I quite liked how her "story" was told in both past & present. I felt some of the descriptions regarding family secrets, pride & family wounds to be very moving with beautiful writing at times, but at other spots I got bogged down/confused with the emotional sorting through of the family story. I'm happy that I can include this in my "Read" category & I would like to read another novel by Donna Morrisey. less
