review 1: Told in chapters that alternate between Sylvia the adult and Sylvia the child, Ostermiller tells a story that twice demonstrates the impact of infidelity. Sylvia and her older sister, Ali, live with a father who is often distant and cruel, and a weak mother with a long-term "boyfriend" who is part of the fabric of their lives. As a result of her upbringing, Sylvia also pursues an extramarital relationship at the expense of her own family. A very good book.

... moree, but the story did sell itself. One part, I was beginning to think was a little too cliche, but then it completely worked itself out and was right on the money fitting into what would really happen in this girl's world. It held my attention and I read it straight through, which is my biggest indicator of a book. Felt that the writing flowed as well. I could feel empathy for the characters, while they are completely out of sync with my own life and personality. less

I didn't enjoy this story or the various characters that had little to no appeal. Tedious.
