review 1: Ummmmmmmmm... I have never understood a book so much yet been so completely confused by it in my entire life! p.s WHAT A SHIT FUCKING ENDING! i mean I get that is supposed to be like a Shakespearean tragedy but NO!!! even in Romeo and Juliet we got some fucking closure but no all we get in this is a beautifully written ending that (in my opinion) is completely destroyed by the fact that I have no clue what happens to ANY of the other characters!!! still, the extraordinary writing is the saving grace of this novel and the only reason it is getting 4 stars...
review 2: I was so thrown off by the language in this story. It is a retelling of Hamlet from Ophelia's point of view. It took the longest for me to realize it was meant to be contemporary because of the ela... moreborate way of speaking. For me, it went beyond lyrical, because it echoed so much of the original writing. I was compelled by the story and the touches of the otherworldly, but in the end I couldn't get past the archaic speech. The reference to cell phones was the only clue I had that this was modern. I gave it a good go, getting past the midway point but had to put it down. less
