review 1: The whole book is a relentless attack on capitalism. The author believes that we have all been brain washed by corporatism that we can only think of things in money terms. He proposed that we use informal credits with each other. This is possible in small towns but hard in big cities. One also wonder how taxes can be paid for public services like policemen, teachers and firemen. Overall a disappointment.
review 2: This book was paradigm-shifting for me. There's a ton of material out there about how corporations affect the political system as well as how they promote materialism. But I loved how this book looks at things from a lower, more fundamental level. It illustrates how the entire structure and purpose of the corporate and centralized currency system is i
... morenherently incompatible with our society's needs. Politically, we can tweak things to try to cover up symptoms, but the system was just not designed to work the way most of us want it to.Rushkoff is great at highlighting his points with little observations about what our lives look like. The kinds of things that make you think "Yeah, that's exactly what it's like. But I never thought of it that way." Even though the concepts can be heavy, Rushkoff presents them in a very entertaining and accessible way. Overall it's a fascinating read. less
