The Angel of 13th Street
review 1: An excellent book that was recommended to me by a friend. I'm so glad I took the recommendation as this is the first book by Eden Winters that I've read. A beautifully written story of loss, betrayal, hope, friendship and love Angel of 13th Street is not to be missed.Noah owns a bar, a laundromat and a painful past. When he's not working he's trying to save the rent boys from a life of prostitution, drugs and degradation. It's a life Noah used to know intimately until someone saved him. Now he's trying to save as many others as he can.Jeremy has fallen through the cracks. Too old for foster care but not finished with his high school he's living in an abandoned warehouse trying to survive until he can graduate and go to college. Alone in a laundromat at night he's almost ab... moreducted by men who want him to turn to prostitution.Noah saves Jeremy, offers him a place to stay and a way to make his dreams come true. In a rough world Noah and Jeremy find each other. Which turns out to be the best dream either ever had.
review 2: The Angel of 13th Street by Eden Winters may especially appeal to romance readers drawn to the themes of rescue and redemption. Written in alternating third-person viewpoints and set in an unnamed American city, the story focuses upon a 30 year-old man in need of redemption who struggles with his attraction to the 18 year-old homeless boy whom he rescues from a rough existence on the streets. This is a very popular theme in romance, which can stumble over its own stereotypes if the rescuer is too hard-edged and the “innocent” is too weak and vulnerable. Fortunately, the author writes with a sure hand for her characters, causing them to come across as real people. Thirty year-old Noah has a contemplative, tenderhearted side to balance his formidable size and toughness. Eighteen year-old Jeremy is handsome and innocent, but he’s also extremely hard working, smart, and independent. The result is a match between two very appealing characters. The story opens with Jeremy who is facing real trouble from his former boyfriend Trent who now stalks him with a gang of thugs, hoping to force Jeremy into prostitution for Trent’s boss Willie Carnell. Jeremy, who is attending high school and trying to earn a full scholarship to college, lives in the basement of an abandoned warehouse and does his homework in a crummy coin-operated laundry at night. There he meets Noah who owns the laundry and the adjacent bar, and he gratefully accepts when Noah offers him a job at the laundry.Unbeknownst to him, Noah is the “angel of 13th street” who helps male prostitutes to escape the profession and to return home or find new lives. Noah is especially smitten by Jeremy who resembles Noah’s lost love from his own dark past. As the two attempt a friendship, Noah thinks his biggest problem will be discouraging the amorous intentions of Jeremy whom he regards as too young for him. However, his involvement with Jeremy precipitates unforeseen trouble from Trent who is willing to do whatever it takes to get revenge.Val for AReCafe less

Good story. A bit on the violent side for my taste.
