The Match Before Christmas
review 1: A very funny, heartwarming story of a man determined to find a boyfriend before Christmas through an online dating service. Barry goes on several dates, each proving disastrous -- one just wants to check him off as he attempts to have sex with as many men as possible in 24 hours, one is secretly married to a woman, one is obsessed with his ex, etc. The dating mishaps are hilarious, and I often laughed out loud. But what made the story sweet was when Barry begins to realize that some of his dates would be perfect for each other, so he starts to do some matchmaking of his own.Due to the structure of the story, there isn't much time to develop a romance for Barry, when he finally meets someone right for him, and that would be my only complaint. But the author does give th... moreem two or three chapters to get to know each other -- not just a quick meeting and wrap up. So there is some development -- just not as much as I might like. But it's a minor quibble. Overall, this story was delightful and I couldn't put it down until I finished it.Highly recommended!
review 2: he Match Before Christmas by Eden Winters will delight those readers who love romantic comedy, especially if you’re also intrigued by the hot new trend of online dating. More people than ever are trying to find their soul mates via the finely tuned questionnaires and huge databases of internet dating services. What could possibly go wrong? The exceptionally nice hero Barry must suffer through a hilarious succession of bad dates as he looks for the right man with which to settle down, hopefully before the impending Christmas season. The men that Barry meets fall everywhere on the spectrum of inappropriateness from the innocuous guys with different relationship agendas to the neurotic, the obnoxious, the desperate, and the truly weird.Such realism might have made the situations too painful for humor except for Barry’s unflappable optimism and quiet self-confidence. He gets anxious as another lonely Christmas draws near with no appropriate men in sight, but he’s never bitter or resentful towards his dates. In fact, the author brings back several of his new acquaintances as he attempts to match them up with each other. This fast-paced comedy is fun to read. The story opens with Barry deciding to sign up for an online dating service. Barry is a building contractor who spent his twenties establishing his career, and now he wants a man with whom to share his life. The entire world is starting to look as if it is exclusively geared towards couples, starting with his parents, who have been together forever, and his happily married sister. He longs to find a handsome boyfriend he can bring to meet his family, especially as the holiday season approaches. To his surprise, he gets some responses when he posts his photo and profile. However, some of the hopefuls are clearly the result of software errors such as an outdoorsy type who turns out to be a lesbian. Others seem like guys with potential, who soon turn out to be moderately to truly weird on the first date. Meanwhile, Barry perseveres with optimistic caution and proves himself an endearing hero.Val for AReCafe less
