review 1: Volume 51 starts out continuing the story of The Straw-hat Pirates as they search for the legendary One Piece. In this Volume the Straw-hats Continue helping kami the mermaid in her rescue attempt of Hachi the octopus fishman, who has been kidnaped by a gang of slavers called the “Flying Fish Riders” who wish to sell the fishman at the “Human auction house”. After a battle between the two forces, they become ally’s once Sanji (the Cook for the Straw hats) changes Duvals( the leader of the Flying Fish Riders) face by kicking him so he will no longer be mistaken for sanjis bounty poster. After this two forces return to Hachis fish boat for a small celebratory feast. It is there that the Straw Hats learn that to continue on their journey they must either travel th... moree safe route Over a giant land continent and leave there ship behind or head to the Sabaody arcapilago And locate a coater who can make the ship able to dive under the water, That way they can take the more dangerous path that leads to Fishman Island. Not wanting to leave there ship behind and always up for an adventure the Straw hats head to Sabaody.The second half of the book is the start of their Adventures at Sabaody.Once they arrive Hachi tells the Straw Hats that some of the world nobles are in town and no mater what happens they must not interfere with them. Even if they kill someone in front of them. After some site seeing the straw hats cross paths with 2 of the world nobles. The world nobles are above all laws. Can claim people and property as their own on a whim. They can do this because 800 years ago 20 kings crated the world government and threw the generations there power got out of control. After seeing the world nobles beat and kill slaves in front of a group of people hatchi must restrain Luffy from attacking.In the 3rd part of the volume After their altercation with the Nobles they head to find a coater to coat the ship this is where they find out that now that the Straw-hat pirates are on the island there are 11 pirates with bounty’s over $100,000. After the introduction of the 11 supernovas, Camie get kidnaped and is about to be sold in an action. As the heroes rush to try to buy Camie so they won’t draw the attention of the government. The get outbid by one of the world nobles. When Luffy trys to free Caime, Hachi trys to stop him reveling that he is a fishman by accident. The Nobel thinking hachi a disgusting creature and a filthy fishman shoots. Hachi begs luffy not to hurt the noble as it will bring an admiral to the island and he dos not wish to cause more trouble for luffy and his friends. The chapter ends with Luffy punching the noble in the face with such force that it sends him flying up several rows.This volume touches on the themes of slavery, segregation by race and how people treat and react to it. The straw hats are told not to interfere and pretend it does not happen if they see it. It all so seams that the straw Hats are the only ones who attempt to stand up for the people being abused. Not fearing the anger of the law for doing what is right. When Hachi reveals himself as a fish man in the Auction house, every one other than the different pirates’ crews gathered there are horrified. They don’t see Hachi as a man but as a monster, something less than human. The people are more scared of him than the Pirates some of which are famous for killing civilians (The Kid Pirates) that are worth $100,000-300,000 in bounties,
review 2: Part 2 of the Sabaody storyline. The first half of the book involving the Flying Fish Riders is a bit dull but once the crew gets to Sabaody the story got a lot more interesting. It looks like there's a lot of powerful people centered on the island and it introduces more of the power structure of the world government. While we didn't see a lot of major battles in this book, it does lead up to a pretty huge battle that will probably take place in the next book.I would of given this 5 stars but the first half definitely dragged it down a bit. less
