review 1: The Punk Hazard arc was ehhhh, just okay. It was hilarious, don't get me wrong, it was entertaining, but nothing really special. I'm a Law and Smoker fan so I was glad to see so much of them in this arc. Anyways, since this is the latest English edition, I couldn't wait any longer so I just read the rest of the chapters (up to 733 right now!) online even though I'm not a huge fan of online reading. I'm finally caught up in One Piece and I think I'm going crazy not being able to read or watch anything new! I've been re-watching my favourite scenes and actually tempted to reread the whole series.. Ah I'm so impatient. Anyways, although the New World so far isn't as dramatic as I hoped it to be, I'm sure that Oda will pull through and deliver.
review 2: Storylines
... more in One Piece are usually a slow burn, taking several volumes of build-up to get to amazing, awesome conclusions, and while this current arc isn't finished (and is probably only an initial arc in a much longer storyline, one which could last for a few more years, if not the entirety of the series), this volume does have some rather good moments, including Zolo demonstrating his badassitude by totally wrecking a snow harpy while refusing to actually kill her, a little girl sacrificing herself by eating a bunch of poisoned candies intended for her fellow child-experimentation subjects, and Luffy smashing the bad guy in the face, just like we always want to see. There's also the reveal that these events are leading up to a conflict that will make the epic Paramout War of volumes 56-59 look like childs' play, which is a big promise, but one that Oda definitely has the capability to deliver. It's not as enjoyable to read these volumes spaced several months apart rather than one right after the other, but I still can't wait to see where it's all going, and there's always plenty of fun and craziness in each volume to keep me entertained. less

The usual ridiculous shenanigans. Thoroughly enjoyable, but I'm ready for the next arc.
