review 1: I don't know WTH I was thinking. Probably that I read one of her '80s novels that was sudsy & fun, more Judith Krantz-y. Yeah, the title should have set the clue phone ringing for me. This was more like 'The Notebook', a movie I actually started laughing during because it was so boring that I realized we were having a conversation about movies we'd seen that -might- be slower than this, but people were debating, & then someone coined the term 'real time' movie. As in, the speed at which the plot moves forward. Think The Fishing Channel. Oh, also, when the laughter stopped, I realized that the current scene was about the Nazis. Not usually a topic of comedy. That's a new standard for boring right there. And this book meets that standard.
review 2: Skipping the c... moreonclusion because of countless other reviews stating the exact same idea, it took a while for me to get into the Diary. I was attracted to this book in a stroll in the library, and once I read the summary, I thought "Oh, a book that sounds good!" However, for a while, I was just reading the book losing my attention span to the point where I had to reread chapters because I read without even understand what was happening. I feel that my attention span remained the same throughout the rest of the book. I think this is more of a personal problem as I read this genre of books often and the storyline just seems bland to me. Nothing really stood out to me that caught me off guard. This book didn't really stand out to me to receive a higher rating. I do suggest this book to those who like romance novels. less
