review 1: Had a brilliant concept, but the author I felt didn't really come through too great in the end at portraying it. Melina was quite the juvenile character, and I really had to push through, the only reason I did was because of Dr Alex... :) Emergency room vampire, couldn't think of a better occupation! I pushed through this because I've been wanting to read more urban fantasy and dark fantasy and modern day supernatural twists. Perhaps there are netter urban fantasies out there. I'll be fair and give this 2 stars, because the idea was new and I felt original, just was not executed that well. At times it was okay, and as I just said, I enjoyed Alex's character far more than Melina. She needed to grow up a little bit though.
review 2: This book wasn't bad, but I fe... moreel like it wasn't as good as it could have been. The premise is interesting and unusual. The way that the vampires and werewolves are treated seem like it is different from the way that they are usually treated, but it is hard to tell for sure because while the characters are there the author doesn't seem to deal with them as non-humans very much. The main flaw with this book is unfortunately the main character. She doesn't start out that bad but the longer you read the more cliched and down right stupid she gets. I'm hoping that the author just meant to emphasize what sleep loss can do to a person. I'm giving this series the benefit of the doubt as well. The book really was good up until about mid-way through when the character flaws of the main character started to get tedious. I will read the next book in the series and see if it lives up to the promise of the premise. less
