review 1: I mostly just wanted this book to be over...another book stuffed full of unsympathetic characters. But, I did enjoy the writing style - it seemed like the author loves words, yet I didn't find the writing overwrought or unnecessarily wordy, or think the author was "trying too hard." Many things that came out of the mother's mouth were very surprising and amusing. She was certainly a unique and memorable character, even if not necessarily "likable."
review 2: Coming of age story with an entitled, star crossed family at the forefront. I liked the backstory but found main character, Riddle a bit flat. Actually besides Greer most of the characters were 1 and 2 dimensional. What was enjoyable was the language, smart and snappy, sometimes I think the author was so
... more in love with her turns of phrase that she let language take the place of characterization. But I liked the story and language a lot, surprising plot twist late. less

This is a fun summer read. It won't win the Pulitzer Prize, but I found the family entertaining .

Well, maybe 3.5 stars. I cared enough to keep reading, but can't HIGHLY recommend it.
