review 1: The Sheik's Defiant Fiancée is a nice short romance story about Laila and her soon-to-be husband Sheik Jabril. The story was fun, with steamy moments and i liked the fact that even though it was short(only 66 pages!) it felt completed. It didn't make me feel like the story needed something more-that it was missing something like some other short stories made me feel. But i would like to see a little more world building, i'm sure it would be entertaining to learn more things about 'Surisia' the country the characters live in and the customs they have. The way the point of view in the story changes sometimes even in the same paragraph is very nice, the transitions from one character to another have a smooth flow and we get to read about what each of them is thinking. I r... moreeally enjoyed this story and i hope i'll get to read more of them.
review 2: I enjoyed the other two stories loosely connected with this one so I thought I'd give it a try. I found that out of the three that I wasn't as enamored with this one. Mostly it was the heroine. At first I liked her and respected her stance about her upcoming arranged marriage. She heard rumors that her soon to be husband, the country's ruler, was a philanderer and didn't want to go beyond a business like arrangement since he wouldn't be faithful. But then when she confronts him and he tells her that she has the wrong end of the stick and has him mixed up with his cousin, she refuses to believe it and spends almost the rest of the book in denial. Denial of attraction and feelings even lying about it while pushing the guy away. I get it on a certain level and understand that she's just scared, but it still got old and made no sense because it was one of those 'I'll deny with words, but my expressions and actions don't match and I'm fooling no one' type things. In the end, when it takes a crisis to get her in gear, I was like 'finally'.I liked the couple together and the overall plot was good so it turned out mostly enjoyable. less
