review 1: Great story tho some parts extremely frustrating. The vengeance portion when weighed against all she had forsaken became utterly foolish. The ambivalence of the queen while depicted truly is in itself frustrating to see the lives of those around her subject to her every whim! Ugh! Thank goodness for George Washington who refused to be a king of our great nation. Also difficult to understand why Nico would dare to leave her again, he should have told his grandmother he had served her well & it was time he lived his own life. Well crafted story with historical interest but sometimes the political/family intrigue became too entangled to follow.
review 2: Just like the author, Elizabeth Loupas, I have also been interested in books about Mary, Queen of the Scots. I
... moreenjoyed her unique approach of introducing floromancy (floral meanings) into the historical fiction through the character, Rinette Leslie. Having visited Edinburgh and Holyrood Palace and walked the Golden Mile, I could visualize settings in the book, as if actually on site. Good characterization of major people both real and fictional, who participated in court life around Mary as a young queen. Hopefully Nico and Rinette get to enjoy life together at Granmuir. less
