review 1: It seems unfair to award just three stars to a story that is so well worked out and which offers a spiritual vision only too rare in popular Christian writing, but --fact is-- I was rather put off by the ever-present threat of physical violence. My loss, no doubt. The plot is rarely if ever relieved by a delightful turn of phrase, by keen observation of how people think and speak, or by a wonderfully evocative description of the natural world. Those things mark the novels I like best.I could wish that more of the the Arab characters had shown the beautiful character and splendid courage of a few I have known. It's good to have read "Two Crosses," but I hesitate to plunge into the next volume. I liked it (three stars), and I am glad that others like it be... moretter.
review 2: I'm on page 222 at this point and so far I am impressed! I love good well researched Historical fiction and this book appears to be one of those. I'll update as I progressUpdate I just finished the book. I thought it was very good. Extremely well-written, intelligent, well researched. I would highly recommend it. Be aware however that it is part of a trilogy so it will leave you hanging if you aren't planning on reading the other two books less
