I originally started Fistful of Glitter to share things I enjoy. I generally do that after I’ve enjoyed them and had the time to think about what I’d like to say. But what about the stuff I’m enjoying at the moment? And the more general thoughts I’d like to share?

For many years, my mother and I had a breakfast at a cafe every Saturday morning to catch up on each other’s weeks. It was a lovely tradition and gave us the opportunity to share the things that we’d discovered and loved despite not having a lot of time to spend together. I’d like to now extend that tradition to my blog, and use the weekend as a chance to share with my readers where I’m at in gaming, in reading, in watching and in life.
In life…
This week (and last for that matter) was mainly focused on moving into my new apartment. It’s the first time I’ve had a space of my own, as previously I’ve always moved in with my partners. This time my partner and I were moving somewhere together and I’m pretty excited to be able to design our own space, particularly as, due to an ongoing health issue, I have to spend a lot of time in it. Not only that, as the new place is pet-friendly so I get to live with my cat again, and it’s lovely to be able to wake up to his snuggles.
Unfortunately, I also got some bad news this week. It’s something that I need to process more before sharing with you all, but suffice to say it has been a major theme recently. I am finding that I need my anti-depressants more than ever, and with their help, I’ve got through the bad news and the stress of moving.
In gaming…
I’ve played a lot of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt this week, which is even more amazing that the first two games! I’m enjoying it heaps so far. The moral choices have been fascinating (although I have to admit, I have save-scummed a couple). I’m just about to leave Velen and venture to Novigrad after finishing the famous Bloody Baron storyline, and can’t wait to see what happens next!
I also played Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, and wrote a blog post on it. I really loved the simplicity of it, with everything in the game adding to the story and its emotional effect. It’s something I would highly recommend for anyone who, like me, loves story-driven games.
In watching…
My partner and I have been rewatching (or watching for the first time in his case) the television adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather. It’s one of my two traditional Christmas “movies” along with Love Actually. It’s a wonderful adaptation, particularly as Susan Sto-Helit (my favourite Pratchett character) is fantastically played by Michelle Dockery. I love how over-the-top the Discworld universe is, and it has always seemed to be even more exaggerated in its film adaptation. The Hogfather follows in that tradition and is a particularly over-the-top, magical, fun and sometimes creepy, Christmas movie, and a definite must-watch for me every December.
In reading…
I haven’t talked about reading very much on this blog, and that’s mainly because most of my large collection of books have been packed away in storage for the last six months, and I haven’t had a huge amount of time to read anything. One of the things I have read, however, is Emily Rodda’s Deltora Quest 1 and 2. I read Deltora Quest as a child, and although I was getting a bit too old for it by the time the second and third series came out I enjoyed it immensely. After finding the giant copy I had bought myself for my eighteenth birthday (containing all eight of the first series’ books), I decided to do what I’d been planning to at eighteen: to sit down and read them all. I was shocked to find I still found them hugely enjoyable, in fact, I’m planning a blog on them early next week.
