review 1: Got this for free on amazon for kindle...omg this was one of those truely poorely written romance novels. I forced myself to keep reading beyond the first chapter, made it about 1/3 of the way through the book and then couldn't continue. The characters are flat, the plot poor, the pacing awful, and the view point switches back and forth so much between characters it is distracting and off putting. Seriously have not picked up a book this unreadable in awhile (i've read fanfiction written by 12 year olds better than this!)
review 2: Review: Summer Rose by Elizabeth Sinclair Rose Hamilton moves to Carson on a tale her best friend told her. She met her friend Beth in Foster Care when the girls were about 12 years old. Rose entered the system because her mother u
... morep and decided she wasn’t cut out to be a mother anymore and took off and left Rose alone. Beth comes from a far different situation, at least that’s what she tells Rose. Beth’s mom ‘died’ of cancer, but before that happened, Beth has an idyllic life. She lives in a beautiful little home, complete with a white-picket fence and beautiful yellow roses growing around the house…. Rose had lost her job, when her floor manager learned she was pregnant; that is what she thinks anyway. She was told that it was due to department cutbacks, but her lay-off happened two days after it was discovered she was pregnant. This is too much of a coincidence in Rose’s mind.Being laid off wasn’t the only factor that sent Rose packing, her best friend Beth and Beth’s husband Patrick were killed in a car accident. Loosing her friend was tragedy enough to turn her life upside down. Added to that, Rose was carrying twins, and the babies are Beth and Patrick’s. Beth had much difficulty getting pregnant, and wanted to be a mother more than anything, so Rose became their surrogate. Rose arrives in Carson on a wing and a prayer. She was very lucky that her car made it there to begin with. She has a little savings, but it won’t last long unless she gets a job. Carson being a sleepy small town, Rose is scared of not finding a job. An opportunity presented itself, as an assistant at a Veterinary Clinic / Wildlife Refuge. As a nurse, Rose believes she is qualified to take the position. When she walks into the clinic, she’s not prepared for the sexy and smart Doc. Hunter is taken aback by Rose’s beauty, when he saw her bells went off in his head. Not necessarily nice bells either, more like warning bells. Hunter knew that Rose would test all his resolve; he’s determined to NEVER get entangled in a relationship…because relationships lead to marriage, and marriage to babies. Hunter has had tragedy strike his life as well. When he was 18 his parents were killed by a drunk driver. Overnight, he went from high school graduate looking to enter college – to big brother/dad/mom/provider. Hunter has two younger siblings and instead of taking the selfish route, he selflessly took on all those roles to ensure his brother and sister achieved all they dreamed of. Hunter hired Rose on the spot, even though he knew she would test his strength. He quickly learned that she was more than qualified to assist him in anything the Veterinary Clinic presented. Over a couple of months, Hunter’s feelings for Rose grew. He still battled with himself, convinced he could stay away from romantic entanglements. Rose on the other hand, was falling head over heels with Hunter. But she was afraid to tell him that she was pregnant, fearing he would fire her.Little did she know, firing would be the least of her worries when Hunter discovered her pregnancy. Rose inadvertently discovered Hunter’s aversion to marriage and family, when he found out that the stray cat he took in, came up pregnant. Hunter had been meaning to Spay Pansy, but things kept coming up and he kept putting it off. He had to leave the office on an emergency call, and left Rose in charge. Pansy was meowing like crazy, right there every time Rose tried to take a step. She couldn’t figure out what was wrong with the cat. In the back room, Tommy the tabby cat was waiting for pick up…Rose found Pansy rubbing along the Tommy’s cage and they were both setting up a ruckus, likely to give her a migraine! Rose not knowing much about animals, thought the two were lonely and just wanted each others company. She opened Tommy’s cage door and let Pansy in. The cats seemed happy, as the incessant meowing stopped. Two weeks later, Hunter had a block of time free and decided it was time to Spay Pansy. Much to his dismay, he discovered her pregnancy while examining her. Hunter LOST it!! Policy and practice of his clinic…he made damn sure that all animals were caged while not being treated, so he had no idea how Pansy would’ve come up pregnant. He approached Rose and asked “How did Pansy get pregnant?” Rose chuckled and raised an eyebrow…thinking ‘how do you think?’ Rose told Hunter what she had done, and he completely flipped out! Shouting “Did you ever think that maybe Pansy didn’t want to be a mother?” This question led to Rose finding out Hunter’s feelings about relationships and family…needless to say, she was crushed. The man she had fallen in love with would never be anything more than a boss and friend…..or would he? This book was good, it didn’t set the house of fire though. There was more back and forth than any real progress made. Conflict after conflict ensued - with no real resolution until the end. When Hunter finally removed his head from his ass, he saw the possibilities. This was a story of self discovery, Hunter realizing that responsibilities didn’t have to mean hardship. Having a partner through life would remove the stresses of doing all by yourself. My favorite character in the book is Granny Jo Hawk…she’s a hoot and made me laugh out loud! less
