review 1: My review:This book was very entertaining. I enjoyed it a lot and it had me smiling as well as scowling at Cole quite a number of times. I started the wrong way around in this series, but did not feel as if I am lost. I will definately read more of this author's works! Well done!Synopsis:Steering clear of relationships has never been difficult for demolitions expert Cole Bowen, but now, with his brother's engagement sending the female population into full-blown hysterics and the town of Alden's month-long festivities helping along, he finds himself in hell. When he discovers Alden's new resident and the object of all his wet dreams, Christine Sheridan, has sworn off relationships and is going to hire a gigolo to get professionally laid, he decides to kill two birds wit... moreh one stone.Christy is so not drinking again. Thanks to José Cuervo she has her friends signing her up for stud conventions and Cole frigging Bowen offering sex in exchange for fake dates, which is so out of the question it isn't even funny. She knows the domineering man will push her boundaries, and after battling all her life with self-esteem issues, she isn't ready for that. Too bad he won't take no for an answer.Cole is determined to strip away all of her defenses but refuses to lower his ever-present walls, so when Christy realizes she wants more, she's left with only two options; walk away or crack his shield and risk her heart in the process.
review 2: I had a hard time reading this one all the way to the end. I had some major issues with both the heroine and hero, neither of them seemed like nice people. I know this book is supposed to be the second in a series but I honesty don't think reading the first book before hand, would have changed my opinion of this book.Christy struggles with some major body issues and Cole had some major mommy issues. It wan't that Christy's had body issues that bothered me, in fact that is what initially drew me to the book (I like reading books where I can relate to the characters self image) it was how the writer tried to pretty-up the ugly. For example, Christy would say she had ugly stretch marks on her stomach that she was embarrassed of (which is what is to be expected after gaining and then losing that kind of weight, and I could totally understand that those stretch marks would make you self conscious) but then she would immediately say they are barely noticeable because she used creams (which, everyone who has stretch marks knows doesn't really work). It was frustrating and insulting.Christy has struggled with being overweight since she was a kid. Growing up in an unstable home, Christy turned to food for comfort. Food became her drug of choice in a way. At her heaviest she weighed 200lbs, but eventually lost 70 lbs. Despite losing and keeping the weight off, she still can't stand her body, which I can understand, but I felt the way the character described herself didn't make me fell like I could relate to her feelings of inadequacy. Instead her descriptions made me dislike her and make me feel judged and ashamed, like if you are overweight you should feel ashamed and inadequate. Cole is the oldest of the three Bowen brothers, who are apparently the town hotties. Cole is an ex-marine alpha male. He doesn't do the whole dating thing because after his mother left he never wanted to put himself in a position where he could be hurt by a women again (what an original concept, not!). Despite his very strict "no strings attached relationships," he can't seem to stay away from Christy. The only thing this book had going for it was Cole and Christy's physical relationship. I can't lie, it was hot!Despite the steamy bit, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. less
