review 1: I picked up this book because I plan to spend a year in France...eventually! I loved how each chapter opened with an essay and I was sometimes annoyed about the remainder of the chapter being made of short, diary-like entries. Yet, I often delighted in how a story could be so short but satisfying. Overall, I enjoyed the book because I often felt transported back to Paris. I look forward to going back again and visiting the recommended museums at the back of the book.
review 2: I enjoyed her little daily journal entries. It was charming. But for some reason I was hoping she would have dwelled on her cancer scare just a little more. The "Rose" chapter didn't fit. I was perfectly content reading it, until the entry where she belittled a couple for take a video ... morein Paris. Not everyone gets to live in Paris for a FULL year. From then on, I saw the author as a snob. Not everyone can just basically quit their job and up and move. I've been to Paris & took an obscene amount of pictures because I knew I wouldn't be coming back. That's what tourists do. less
