Full Review:

Chris Wu is becoming one of my favorite Taiwanese actors and this drama is one of the reasons why. The story is great from start to finish although the last episode can be frustrating at times because of how long it takes the main leads to get back together. It has been my experience that a lot of Taiwanese dramas drag towards the end and I am not exactly sure why.

There was great chemistry between the main leads; the kiss scene in episode nine was simply amazing and in my opinion one of the best in 2017.

Watching the food being prepared and the way the dishes were described makes me hungry whenever I watch this drama. Apart from the romantic scenes, the cooking scenes were the best part of this drama. I found it fascinating how they interjected some Korean, Japanese and English phrases into the actor’s lines. The soundtrack was nice and I have actually heard the music used in the opening sequence in another drama, Attack It, Lightning!

There was too much product placement in this drama. The cosmetics of La Gina were everywhere even the second female lead’s English name was Gina. If you watch the ending scene closely you can even see La Gina billboards. The blender also features quite a lot in the drama. I have nothing against product placement in a drama, it is quite necessary for dramas to get funding. I just hope it could merge into the drama without being so obvious.

Sometimes I find pointless scenes in Taiwanese dramas like the musical number in the first episode or the group dance at the wine party. Some Taiwanese dramas have these scenes and others don’t for whatever reason. Also in episode seven there is a weird scene with a new character that they never follow up on later in the drama, totally confusing.

I feel the writer used too many flashbacks to clarify the story-line especially when explaining what happened at Grandma’s 80thbirthday dinner or Shao Wei’s birthday.

The bromance between Xiao Bin and Huo Ting En was an interesting addition to the drama’s story-line.

Wei Fen Qing has quite an inferiority complex in this drama, I mean she was able to figure out that Shao Wei was into her but just couldn’t believe that Huo Ting En liked her. She really tortured the poor guy.

Huo Ting En’s grandma was just too much. Even though her son was not directly responsible of the death of Wei Feng Qin’s father, his actions afterward were just despicable. Although she tries to make up for it afterward it is an aspect of the drama that was not quite believable. Also the lie that Wei Fen Qing’s mother tells in the end to make sure her daughter and Huo Ting En end up together was just as unbelievable.

This drama has one of the most painful break-ups I have ever watched. Huo Ting En was just too harsh when he broke up with Wei Fen Qing. ‘This is the best decision for her’ is the one of most used and most frustrating justifications in the drama world.

Overall this drama was fun to watch and ignited my interest in curry. It is definitely one of the best cooking based dramas to date in my opinion.
