review 1: Well, for a gal that has always embraced domesticity this book was nothing new. Since I am a educated and well read person, I found a lot of this to be information I already knew. Perhaps if you are in your twenties or thirties (as this author appears to be)you might find this book more informative. I ended up skipping a portion in the middle and the end because it just could not hold my interest.
review 2: I'm nearly finished with this bk. It digs deeper than the average read that covers the DIY blitz, the odd bedfellows of LDS homemakers and far-left liberal environmental parents, and the culture of returning to simplicity. I also think it's one of the better written of its kind. It also draws on the diff generations of feminism and poses the question of w... morehether what she calls DIY parenting is a new type of uber feminism and independence or a regeneration of it, undoing all that our predecessors fought to secure for women. Is being heavily involved in parenting or motherhood compromising independence or finally forcing the US in particular to incorporate the reality of family needs into the professional world? I think this is a good rebuttal to Lean In, asking more of family policies and employers rather than trying to conform to the white collar status quo. Again, this argument is made in a lot of places, but this bk explores the issues well and fairly diplomatically. less
