review 1: I enjoyed the language and the heroine, but I found the romance aspect annoying. (Although Imogen/Bucky is my OTP.) With Evelina, men are borderline sexually assaulting her right and left. Even the guys who are more or less "good guys" are doing things like grabbing her hard enough to bruise. I'm hoping in the next book, since Evelina is no longer concerned with having a Season and all that entails, she'll feel more free to stand up for herself.
review 2: This story strives for rich and complex with themes of steam, magic, mystery, and political intrigue all woven together in the trappings of a Regency romance with balls and presentations and gloves. Weaving so many elements together is a impressive feat if a surfeit of riches. I ended up skimming large parts o... moref it because there’s also a wealth of detail in description and so was able to finish and enjoy a basically fun story. For those who revel in the thorough exploration of alternate worlds, the story continues on with the late introduction of Sherlock Holmes into the mix and 2 more installments. less
