review 1: Loved this. Very very funny, but with real emotional depth. Great on the allure of all the things you shouldn't do but want to, and the pressures to grow up, settle down and do all the things women are expected to do and want. The descriptions are so vivid that I got sympathetic hangovers several times during the novel. review 2: This book was pure filth and I loved it! It wasn't gratuitous or thrown badly in for shock value but fitted with the story and the characters perfectly. It was believable filth! ... moref destruction and the weight of being in your 30s caught between true adulthood (babies, marriage, mortgage) and the desire for one last night of 'highly experimental burlesque moves on bar stools’. There is something about Tyler that reminds of the anarchic Tyler Durden and his attack on the status quo. Tyler is a highly intelligent woman who chooses to live her life in a hedonistic, carpe diem way where she is answerable to no one. She is the devil on Laura's shoulder, offering her a drink. Funny, sharp, challenging and clever. I was caught be the cover and very glad I opened it to the first page - it hooked me from the start. less
