review 1: The Nanny Diaries is by far one of my favorite chick-lits of all time. I read it when I was a nanny in college, in New York, and every single sentence rang true, like a perfect arrow straight into my experience. I laughed all the way through it, and at the end it made me sob since I too, had to separate from a charge that I really loved while on bad terms with the parents. Nanny Returns held none of that magic for me, although I was again delighted with the warm and very funny writing style that the talented pair of authors still possess. However, the story seemed disjointed, between the school and what Nan was going through with the X's, and a gaggle of friends that I couldn't seem to keep straight. I finished the novel and was happy to see Nan doing well, but I think th... moree plot was needlessly complicated and there were certain plot lines that ended without resolution.
review 2: Writing: AVocabulary: BPlot: ALevel: EasyRating: R (obscene language, obscene attitudes, abuse, neglect, flagrant sexual behavior, drug overdose, embezzlement, deceit, bullying, libel, gossip, adultery, fornifcation, etc)Worldview: Who cares about ethics? I want to have a good time while being envied by my peers! vs Help people in need despite how you feel or think about them. What should you do or not to be a good parent?Warning: If you tend to empathize strongly with or imagine yourself into another's story, I recommend not reading this book, since the stress level is at a 9/10 for nearly the entire story.Synopsis: Nan is back in New York - with her Harvard Hottie cum Husband - 12 years later. Grayer hunts her down in the search for closure, which prompts Nan to dive back into his life when she finds out that, yes, things really could get worse in his family. At the same time she's also dealing with a gutted house, a consulting job that stinks, and an absent husband. This is a fast read, and will be enjoyed by fans of "The Nanny Diaries." less
