review 1: Sovereign was an exciting read. I found myself sucked into E.R. Arroyo's post-apocalyptic future right from the beginning. The story is told through the eyes of the main character Cori, a misfit within the micro-managed structure of the colony she had been drug into. Through her struggles, I found myself wanting to rebel against her leaders as well. The only negative worth mentioning is that the at the action sequences sometimes roll a little too quickly, and I had to re-read a couple passages to fully grasp the series of events. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys young adult dystopian novels.
review 2: The best way I can describe this book is that if you took the best pieces of all of the really notable recent YA dystopian novels and fit
... more them together into precisely the right formation, you'd end up with Sovereign, and thank goodness there were no zombies. It has the brave heroine, the dreamy and mysterious love interest, the blandly homogeneous settlement, the sociopathic dictator, the high-tension escape scene, and the utopian society at the end of the proverbial Yellow Brick Road. The characters were extremely believable and I really felt a sense of empathy towards them. Wonderful debut novel that I'd highly recommend, and appropriate for the pre-teen set as well. less
