review 1: What Eric Arvin has created here is an utter joy to behold. So rarely do we find answers to life and what is beyond, but in this exquisitely crafted tale of the eternal love of two men, we find some measure of understanding. Written with such care and feeling, this book takes you on a journey of the soul, one man's personal quest, to find the real meaning of his existence. The author works his magic in telling the story of Joe, who finds himself lost in a strange and different world, where natural laws do not apply, and it is left to him to find his way. He is given a guide to assist him in making his way to his ultimate goal. He has no memory of his life, but is aware that someone is waiting for him. Along the way we meet brilliantly crafted characters who help him to ach... moreieve his goal, and that is the most beautiful thing of all. It is love.I alternated between goosebumps and tears as I traveled with Joe, always worrying where his path would take him. I should have had more faith in Eric, that he wouldn't let me down. And he didn't.This is a classic that I could not put down. I even found myself reading out loud, partially to prolong the experience that I didn't want to end, and to let myself feel more intimate with the beauty of the story.PERFECT! I wouldn't change a word.
review 2: “Heaven is closed?” I can’t even begin to describe how beautifully written this book is – there is a wonderfully painted world in these pages that manages to encompass the tenants of many religious beliefs without giving credence to any of them, but without speaking badly of any of them. There is this lovely concept that, without fully realizing it, we impact many lives around us like ripples in water and moments we barely remember can change someone else’s life. On the surface this is the journey of one man, Joe, as he touches upon moments in his life as he tries to reach his journey’s end. But there is so much more going on with this book; concepts of love and forgiveness, reminders that we do not always know what is going on in someone’s life when we can be so quick to judge, and mostly the concept that above all forgiveness of our owns sins and those who have hurt us is so very important in this life and in whatever our next journey may be. There is also this underlying sweet romance as Joe slowly realizes where he is headed. This is a truly amazing book. Eric Arvin has a unique and beautiful way with words! less
